South Shore Arts Program
Each week's activities focused on different skills the students could use to cope with stress, learn about drug and alcohol awareness, self-esteem, and more with the help of art. The students learned how to sew stress monsters, made self-esteem masks that listed their strengths on the outside and things they want to work on are written on the inside, decorated name pins, and made 3D posters of a word that they could use to describe themselves.
Carton to Garden
Over a few weeks students used biodegradable materials to build something that represented a video game each group selected within a particular decade; 1980s - 2010s.
Country Project
Students create a country based on random statistics they are provided with such as: climate, resources, population, money, and member roles. Each group will be responsible for completing their portion of the assigned scenario each week. At the end of each scenario, student countries will present their research and findings.
It takes a lot of team work, responsibility, accountability, creativity, and research to make it through this project. It is also TONS of fun.
Students spend one week creating a flag, national anthem, choosing a national food, animal, and clothing style appropriate for their country. Once those presentations are complete, the real fun begins with the scenarios. Each week is a different surprise that the students need to overcome! In order to survive, countries need to bargain, make deals and trades, and work together. If a group cannot work together, they will surely not have a surviving population by the end.
